Worship - Loving God when you hurt.

Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and
with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment (Mk 12:30).

The Lord is my shepherd:  I shall not want (Psalm 23:1).

Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

God will meet all your needs (Philippians 4:19).

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you (Isaiah 43:2).

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you (John 14:27).

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalm 147:3).

The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore (Psalm 121:8).

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).

The Lord is near.   Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (Phil. 4:5-6, NASB).

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him. (Job 13:15)

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (Jn. 16:33)

Jesus, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief (Isa. 53:3).

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love (1 Jn 4:8, NIV).

"Christianity does not give us a peaceful way to cope with death, it gives us a way to overcome it." ~ Hank Hanegraaff

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart (Jer 29:11-13).

But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead (Php 3:7-11).

Solving Problems Through Prayer by Charles Stanley

If you are angry with God, read Job 40.

The roots grow deep when the winds are strong.  "And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice." (1 Kings 19:12, KJV).

"God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there. There is no such thing."
-C. S. Lewis

“We're not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we are wondering how painful the best will turn out to be”

-C. S. Lewis

“The pain I feel now is the happiness I had before. That's the deal.”

-C.S. Lewis

"But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children
of God, even to those who believe in His name (emphases added Jn 1:12)."

James 1:1-3

"Someone in the Middle Ages said, 'God nothing does, nor suffers to be done, but what we would ourselves, if we could see through all events of things as well as He.'"
–Dr. J. Vernon McGee

James 1:3-13

Is there no other way, Oh God,
Except through sorrow, pain and loss?
To stamp Christ's likeness on my soul,
No other way except the cross?
And then a voice stills all my soul,
That stilled the waves of Galilee,
Cans't thou not bear the furnace
If midst the flames I walk with thee?
I bore the cross, I know its weight,
I drank the cup I hold for thee.
Cans't thou not follow where I lead?
I'll give thee strength, lean hard on Me.

–Author unknown

The Psalmist said "weeping may endure for a night,
but joy comes in the morning (Ps 30:5)."

We may shake on the rock but the rock is never shaken (Ps 62:2).

"Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive lthe crown of life mwhich the Lord has promised to those who love Him (Jas 1:12)."

What God Hath Promised
God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
God hath not promised we shall not know
Toil and temptation, trouble and woe;
He hath not told us we shall not bear
Many a burden, many a care.
God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;
Never a mountain, rocky and steep,
Never a river, turbid and deep.
But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the laborer, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.

An excerpt from John MacArthur's Series:  Making Sense out of Suffering:

A few years ago a song was written that really says it. I'll close with this. It's called "The Refiner's Fire." Listen carefully to the words.

There burns a fire with sacred heat, white hot with holy flame. And all who dare pass through its blaze will not emerge the same. Some is bronze and some is silver, some is gold and with great skill all are hammered by their sufferings on the anvil of His will. I'm learning now to trust His touch, to crave the fire's embrace. For though my past with sin was etched, His mercies did erase. Each time His purging cleanses deeper, I'm not sure that I'll survive. Yet the strength and growing weaker keeps my hungry spirit alive.

And then this great chorus...The Refiner's fire has now become my sole desire. Purged and cleansed and purified that the Lord be glorified, He is consuming my soul, refining me, making me whole. No matter what I lose I choose the Refiner's fire.

And when you can come to the point where you say that, you've reached a level of maturity and a grasp of the Christian life. No matter what I may lose, I choose the Refiner's fire. The Refiner's fire has become my sole desire because I want to become weaker so that He may become stronger.

Revealing your spiritual character, humbling you, drawing you to Himself, displaying His grace, demonstrating His power, that happens through your suffering. Embrace it and let God do His refining work.  Read the series:  How God Uses Suffering:

25 Reasons Christians Suffer

Why Does God allow Suffering? by D. James Kennedy

Excerpt: Ecclesiastes 6:1-6, Riches Without Enjoyment by Gino Geraci

"Pain is God's megaphone." ~ C.S. Lewis

The first man (Adam) was made: happy, healthy and holy. When you're body is right, you're healthy. When your soul is right, you're happy. When you're spirit is right, you are holy. That's the way God made us to function (Ge 1:31).

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Ro 3:23).  God loves us even when we are sinners (Ro 5:8).  But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Ro 5:8).

Invite Christ into your life.  He is a friend of sinners (Mt 11:18-20).  He is the source of all joy and peace (Jn 7:38).  When you give your heart to Jesus Christ, he begins to take control of your life and make you the person he wants you to be--but your life doesn't have to be absolute perfection to go to heaven.  The minute you trust Christ as your personal savior--in that moment you are:  eternally saved, eternally secure and God now begins to work on you (2 Co 5:17).

Adam died:  immediately in his spirit, progressively in his soul, and ultimately in his body (Ge 2:19).  At that time sorrow and pain began (Ge 3:17).   When you get saved, you're justified immediately in your spirit, sanctified progressively in your soul, and glorified ultimately in your body (Rogers).  One day, the heavens and the earth will be renewed (Re 21:1) and sorrow, tears, and pain will end (Re 21:4).  Trust God to meet your needs today (Jn 10:10).  If he will do that for flowers how much more will he do for you? Mt 6:28-30.  Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Mt 6:33). Stanley.

A Thankful Heart in a World of Hurt, Pamphlet

It is hard to be grateful when you are looking into the jaws of mind-bending pain. Chronic illness, a heart attack, a terrible car accident, caring for a developmentally disabled child, facing betrayal and loneliness... these kind of tough times make you want to give up and throw in the towel. You try to overcome, but the exhaustion destroys your energy and hope. You try to pray, but the pain interrupts your concentration.

The topics of fear and hopelessness, depression and suffering, loneliness and worry are issues that author, Joni Eareckson Tada, can speak to personally: A diving accident when she was 17 left her a quadriplegic. She has lived 45 years in a wheelchair and has experienced her share of ups and downs. "But," she says, "oh, the difference the grace of God has made in my life."

Let Joni tell you her secrets to peace and joy, despite her wheelchair. She has taken her most important insights on thankfulness and joy and encapsulated them into this 14-page pamphlet. Whether you or a loved one is suffering. This pamphlet will bring you comfort. Glossy, full-color panels unfold to 38 in. Fits inside most Bibles; 8.5 x 5.5 in.
